PrattMWP is one of three division programs of Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (MWPAI). Founded in 1919, MWPAI is a regional fine arts center chartered to maintain traditions of fine arts and culture. In 1941, the Institute created the School of Art to provide instruction in higher education at the college level in the field of fine arts. Over the next five decades, the School of Art flourished as a two-year fine arts program. In 1998, Pratt Institute approached MWPAI to collaborate a partnership. In 2000, MWPAI became an extension campus of Pratt Institute. PrattMWP has the distinction of being one of five museum schools in the United States. Students accepted to PrattMWP complete their freshmen and sophomore years on the Utica campus before transitioning to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn to complete the BFA. PrattMWP matriculates 95 freshmen and offers three majors: FINE ARTS, COMMUNICATIONS DESIGN, and ART AND DESIGN EDUCATION.
